Jonathan C. Hughley has a wide-ranging intellectual property law practice, comprising the IP aspects of patent prosecution, product clearance, legal opinions, advertising, marketing and promotions, and litigation.

Jonathan has performed patent prosecution and investigation work for several global companies that are leaders in industries that include automotive components, food processing and packaging, consumer products, and irrigation systems. He has also been involved in litigation on behalf of a wide variety of regional, national, and international companies including Bridgetree, Inc., Deere & Company, and TK Holdings. 

Jonathan does extensive review of advertising copy, working with clients to ensure legal compliance with federal and state requirements prior to distribution via email, social media, mobile, sweepstakes, and other marketing activities. He also assists clients in compliance with FTC and FDA labeling requirements.

Prior to joining Fitch Even, Jonathan worked at International Truck & Engine Corporation and Caterpillar, Inc. While attending law school, he worked as a Commercialization Analyst for the University of Illinois’s Office of Technology Management, where he identified, marketed, and licensed intellectual property developed by research on campus. Jonathan also worked at the University of Illinois College of Law Patent Clinic, conducting prior art research and assisting IP clients with patent applications and other matters.

Assisted a Fortune 500 company in determining whether it was free to sell its product in view of competitors’ intellectual property.

Assisted in successful representation of an international information technology company in an action for trade secret misappropriation.

Reviews advertising copy prior to distribution in various marketing channels for a global hospitality company.

Assisted a recent start-up company in securing copyright protection for a graphic novel.
