Fitch Even Attorneys Assist with Annual INTA Moot Court Competition

February 21, 2013

Fitch Even attorneys were pleased to once again volunteer their time to plan and participate in the annual Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, presented by the International Trademark Association (INTA) for the 22nd consecutive year.

Fitch Even partner Joseph T. Nabor again served as chair of the Midwest Regional Competition Committee and attorney Alisa C. Simmons was a member of that committee, assisting with hosting the competition, which took place on February 9 in Chicago, with 90 students from 28 Midwest law school teams participating. Fitch Even partner John E. Lyhus served as a brief-reading judge for the Midwest Region, and partners Eric L. Broxterman and Christine Abuel Pompa served as judges during the oral arguments. Attorneys David A. Gosse and Jonathan H. Urbanek acted as bailiffs during the regional competition.

The National Final Competition will be held at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, March 16, 2013.

This annual competition was established in 1990 in honor of Saul Lefkowitz, past chair of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is the only moot court competition in the U.S. with a focus on trademark and unfair competition law. Dolores Hanna, former Fitch Even partner and past INTA president, was fundamental in the creation of this competition. Its objective is to introduce law students to important issues arising in U.S. trademark and unfair competition law. Law students who participate in the competition have the opportunity to develop their brief writing and oral advocacy skills in a mock courtroom experience.

Serving professionals from more than 190 countries worldwide, INTA is a not-for-profit membership association dedicated to the support and advancement of trademarks and related intellectual property as elements of fair and effective commerce.
