On June 10-12, the National Knowledge and Intellectual Property Management Taskforce hosted a conference in Washington, DC, entitled Creating Liquidity & Earnings through IP Transactions. Partners Karl Fink and Steve Parmelee each made presentations in support of these themes. Karl's presentation served to update attendees with respect to certain recent key litigation precedent. Steve's presentation unveiled the Taskforce's new Capabilities Scorecards that are designed to permit an enterprise to assess its ability and readiness to participate in high-end, cutting edge intellectual property transactions.
Raymond Millien, a partner at PCT Law Group, PLLC also made a presentation at this conference. Raymond's presentation introduced the Taskforce's Model Patent Sale Agreement, -- an agreement based upon terms and conditions used by early innovators in over 1500 patent transactions to date. This Agreement is the first in a series of documents that the Taskforce will produce in order to ultimately address transacting all types of IP assets.
Fitch Even and the PCT Law Group recently announced a first-of-its-kind strategic alliance to leverage the capabilities of both firms on behalf of their respective clients.
The mission of the Taskforce is to define the competencies and to set the standards to accelerate the transformation of knowledge to net worth in the competitive enterprise and to facilitate a national economic infrastructure that can support IP-based commerce. Fitch Even has been a participant in the Taskforce since 2001.
Karl's practice includes all aspects of intellectual property creation, management, enforcement and licensing, with particular emphasis on intellectual property litigation. Steve's practice at Fitch Even focuses on intellectual property acquisition and portfolio management in a wide range of technical fields. Steve is frequent author and speaker, and authored the book "Strategic Patent Portfolio Management", published by the National Knowledge and Intellectual Property Management Taskforce. Steve also contributed the chapter "How to Turn White Space Dark for Fun and Profit" for the book Business Power - Creating New Wealth From IP Assets (John Wiley & Sons) and Karl contributed the chapter "Value Added Litigation" for that same book. Raymond's practice includes developing strategies and counseling clients on patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret matters, including negotiating and drafting IP and technology-related agreements.
