Mr. Nabor is a partner of the Firm, Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery. Prior to joining the firm as an attorney in 1989, Mr. Nabor had served for ten years in the professional legal staff of the firm as a Senior paralegal. Since 1989, Mr. Nabor has been responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Trademark and Copyright Department of the Firm. Throughout that time, he has had a primary responsibility for prosecuting thousands of domestic and foreign trademark applications including renewals, affidavits of use, etc. Mr. Nabor has also been extensively involved in obtaining as well as successfully defending against the issuance of injunctions, the conduct of discovery, negotiation of settlement as well as extensive motion practice. He has also been the lead attorney in hundreds of oppositions before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board as well as directing oppositions and similar proceedings in other countries. Mr. Nabor regularly counsels clients on brand development strategies including securing trademark rights throughout the world. He has actively been involved in the acquisition of the intellectual property portfolios of many industrial leaders. In the trademark and copyright prosecution area, Mr. Nabor participates and oversees all trademark and copyright applications which are filed through the firm and has extensive experience in dealing with trademark examining attorneys within the United States Patent and Trademark Office as well as examining attorneys within the Copyright Office. Mr. Nabor has been involved in a number of ex-parte Appeals within the USPTO wherein the trademark examining attorneys have refused registration. In those Appeals, many of which were argued before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board by Mr. Nabor, the findings of trademark examining attorneys were reversed, and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board directed registration of the marks. Mr. Nabor's experience also includes the review of hundreds of search reports regarding the availability of various trademarks and reporting the results thereof to clients.
Mr. Nabor has served as a member of the Intellectual Property Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association of which he was the Chairperson during the 1997-98 year. Mr. Nabor has also served as the Chairperson of the Domestic Trademark Practice Committee for the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago and served on its Board of Managers from 1999-2001. He has served as the chairperson of the Trademark and Copyright Subcommittee of the Chicago Bar Association from 1999 to 2001 and as the Chair of its Intellectual Property Committee. In addition to the ISBA, CBA and IPLAC, Mr. Nabor is a member of the American Bar Association, and the International Trademark Association serving as the Chairperson of the Leadership Development Subcommittee of the later from 1999 through 2001. Currently he serves on the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition Committee for the Brand Names Education Foundation. As of 2004, Mr. Nabor has been identified as a Leading Lawyer in intellectual property by the Leading Lawyers Network. A frequent speaker and author on matters related to trademarks and copyrights, Mr. Nabor has also moderated trademark and copyright panel discussions and headed round table discussions and seminars regarding an extensive variety of topics concerning Trademarks and Copyrights. |
