On June 24, 2008, Partner Steve Parmelee will give a presentation on the intellectual property law challenges faced by entrepreneurs and strategies for addressing those challenges. Steve is the featured speaker for a June lecture in a monthly series sponsored by the Jules F. Knapp Entrepreneurship Center at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago (http://www.knappcenter.iit.edu/events.htm). Steve will discuss the four main areas of intellectual property law practice (patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and trademarks) in the context of a single vignette that details the legal adventures (and misadventures) of an entrepreneur developing a new business.

The Knapp Center supports the expansion of entrepreneurial activity at and around IIT. The Knapp Center assists entrepreneurs with business structure, launch strategies, risk control and networking opportunities within IIT and the Center.

Steve's practice at Fitch Even focuses on intellectual property acquisition and portfolio management in a wide range of technical fields. Steve is frequent author and speaker, and authored the book "Strategic Patent Portfolio Management", published by the National Knowledge and Intellectual Property Management Taskforce. Steve also contributed the chapter "How to Turn White Space Dark for Fun and Profit" for the book Business Power - Creating New Wealth From IP Assets (John Wiley & Sons).
