International Practice
Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery® can support the needs of its clients anywhere in the world. Many decades ago, the firm set out to establish relationships with other leading firms across the globe. Today, our network of highly competent associates spans over one hundred countries and continues to evolve. Through its longstanding commitment to both U.S. and international practice, the firm is uniquely qualified to develop and implement global intellectual property protection strategies for its domestic and international clients.
Attorneys in the firm's International Practice Group focus on obtaining patent and trademark rights outside the United States. These attorneys are knowledgeable regarding the substantive and procedural requirements for obtaining these rights abroad, and in the use of Paris Convention and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) procedures to support international filing strategies. Fitch Even also files and prosecutes numerous U.S. patent applications based on inventions developed abroad, and works closely with overseas representatives to gain the maximum possible protection under U.S. law for such inventions. A number of our attorneys are fluent in foreign languages, particularly German and French, and have considerable experience serving the special needs of foreign clients.
We also counsel a number of international clients with respect to U.S. patent strategies, the avoidance of competitors' rights, and the many unique aspects of enforcing and defending against intellectual property rights in the U.S. judicial system. The firm was recently selected by the Max Planck Institute in Munich to author the U.S. contribution of a comparative review of national patent enforcement regimes, which has been published in several languages.
Fitch Even also maintains an active presence in other organizations committed to the advancement of intellectual property rights internationally. Several of the firm's attorneys regularly participate in the activities of the International Association For The Protection Of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the International Trademark Association (INTA), and the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPPI). Fitch Even also conducts attorney exchange programs with foreign IP firms as a way of continuing to advance our knowledge of the relevant laws and procedures in other countries.
