Fitch Even attorneys Eric L. Broxterman, David A. Gosse, and Joshua P. Smith are volunteering their time to assist with the 39th Annual Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition. The competition, named for the late Honorable Giles Sutherland Rich, Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, is an annual inter-law school event focusing on issues of patent and intellectual property law and sponsored by the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).
Gosse assisted in drafting the problem that will be argued by this year’s participants, as well as the bench brief to be used by AIPLA’s attorney judges. Broxterman and Smith will serve as judges for the regional competition taking place in Chicago on March 16–18, 2012. Regional competitions will also be taking place in Boston, Houston, and Silicon Valley on that weekend. The national finals will be held in Washington, DC on April 18–20, 2012. The top two student teams are recognized with monetary awards.
Founded in 1897, AIPLA is a national bar association comprised primarily of intellectual property lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community. AIPLA represents a wide and diverse spectrum of individuals, companies, and institutions involved in the practice of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and unfair competition law, as well as in other fields of law affecting intellectual property.
