Alexsam, Inc. Sues To Enforce Pre-Paid Card System Patents Against Numerous Retail Branded Gift Card Providers

Fitch Even client, Alexsam, Inc., has filed suit to enforce U.S. Patent Nos. 6,000,608 and 6,189,787 against numerous providers of retail branded electronic gift card programs. Alexsam’s patents related to systems and methods for conducting transactions and managing accounts associated with stored value cards such as gift cards, debit cards, phone cards and medical savings account cards. The named defendants in the lawsuit are Best Buy Stores LP, Barnes & Noble, Inc., Barnes & Noble Marketing Services Corp., The Gap, Inc., Direct Consumer Services, LLC, The Home Depot, Inc., Home Depot Incentives, Inc., J.C. Penney Company, Inc., J.C. Penney Corporation, Inc., McDonald’s Corporation, P2W, Inc. NFP, Toys “R” Us, Inc., and TRU-SVC, LLC. The case is currently pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
