Ryan M. Richter is a registered patent attorney whose practice focuses on domestic and international patent preparation and prosecution, with an emphasis on mechanical engineering, medical devices, and energy‑related technologies. He supports clients throughout the patent process, including patentability analysis, application drafting, and responding to USPTO office actions.

Ryan works on matters involving mechanical and manufacturing systems, medical devices, and other industrial technologies. His experience includes freedom‑to‑operate analyses, claim drafting, and prosecution support, with a focus on developing clear, technically grounded patent applications aligned with clients’ commercial objectives.

Prior to joining Fitch Even, Ryan gained patent prosecution experience at an intellectual property boutique. He also brings substantial industry experience from his role as a loss control inspector for an international equipment breakdown insurance company, where he evaluated complex industrial systems and applied engineering and regulatory standards across manufacturing, utility, and power generation facilities.

While attending the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, Ryan worked at the Patent Clinic, providing pro bono support to inventors with limited resources. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Studies from Thomas Edison State University and completed technical training through the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power Program, qualifying as a Nuclear Mechanical Operator.
